hey thanks for that:
- the install goes OK and both the DS1 and DS/LOA icons appear on the desktop
- followed your instructions to the letter from there onward, and I get these two error messages..
followed (eventually!) by this one:
- pretty much same error-type as before
- I have also followed brkopac's additional advice from here:
siegetheday.org/?q=nod...ment-10954
- would that old Vista 64-bit work-around do any good in W7, I wonder..??

wow, thanks for your help on this, Kayiaxo..
I tried those links and am still only a hair's breadth away from a running game..
there's still a glitch somewhere, at present..
I can almost get to the game, but am faced with a flickering intro GUI
and the cursor smears across the screen during gameplay
- it might be time to completely wipe everything DS1 off my PC at the moment
- and try from basics upward again..
- I'll report back..
- determined to find the solution to this - Windows7 deserves a game like DS1..!!

solved..!!
do as Kayiaxo has instructed above, but bear in mind that:
DS1 doesn't like ATI Crossfire mode, so disable it..
and install DirectX 9c Redist from MS downloads (W7 doesn't have it, apparently..)
then it runs in compatibility mode for Vista Service Pack2
- now to see if I can get LoU, Mageworld, and LOH to install and run..
- yahoo..!!

i have windows 7 64-bit now, and i can say i didnt have to go through all that hassel, all i did was install to c:\dungeon siege... the default folder of program files (x86) should be avoided for installs of games as that is a protected folder which requires admin rights for about everything.
on a side note, while installing world of warcraft, the original and burning crusade would install to program files (x86) but when installing Wrath of the Lich King, the game requests that the game be moved to users\public guess Blizzard even dont like microsoft's new os folder just an example
